Every Friday, United Food Bank Mesa organizes the “Help Yourself” Program. From 8:00am and 12:00pm you can pay $20 to receive a grocery buggy full of food. The food consists of the co-op your $20 buys into (produce, meat and pantry items) and then a line of perishable donated items from grocery stores. You never know what will be in that line, anything from half sheet cakes, girl scout cookies or all the milk you can take before it expires. Theres always some good extra bonus items.
Here is the insider tip: You can go through the line for the perishable items for FREE any week you want to. In fact since I am very particular about the meat we eat, I choose to just go through the line for free each time I go and they are perfectly fine with anybody doing that. Even then I still end up with a huge amount of stuff! It’s a drive for me from Laveen, but if I combine it with the 2 Chandler food banks on Friday, then it’s worth it!
Here is the list where you can see what will be available Friday, August 11, 2017
