Sometimes my husband and I divide and conquer to spend quality time with the kids. We have 6 children from an almost 11 year old to a 1 year old.
Yesterday he took the oldest three out for a fun activity and I stayed home with the younger three.
I had so much fun. I made them hot apple cider, chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese. We played Dinosaur bingo. My favorite was going in the backyard while it was night with the Christmas lights shinning bright and the cool wet grass under our feet. I was silly like I haven’t been a in while. We played red light/green light and tag. The squeal when I would tag them made me want to take a mental picture and really savor this moment. Life is good. Life is so good right now and I know I am blessed more than I deserve. It tugged at my heart so much when I said it was time to take a bath and go to bed. They really didn’t want the night to end. It makes me teary eyed thinking about it now.
This is why I am enforcing a new rule on myself- Be silly everyday with them for at least 10 minutes. I can do 10 minutes. We all need it.
When my husband got back and all the kids were asleep I asked him how his time was. He said at one point they all went to the bathroom, the girls in the women’s and him and our oldest son in the mens. When he came out he saw 2 teenage girls with purses. Then one of those girls came up to him and said, “Hey Dad, are you ready to go?” He had to rub his eyes for a minute. Gah! Now I am crying. It goes by so fast. We both were a little chokey talking about our night. Our children will always be our best accomplishments.
Psalm 127:3-5King James Version (KJV)
3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
