I Made it!

It’s still sick week here. 2 kids overlapped with fevers. Last night I slept in between both of them and just prayed I wouldn’t get it.

Keeping me very sane is running on the treadmill during nap time for half an hour. I am alone in the garage with my phone and earphones and doing one of those preset weight loss work outs. Usually afterwards I feel like Jelly head to toe and beeline to the backyard.

I lay on the floor and stretch and feel the cool earth on my skin. I do some grounding, walking and twirling around (can’t wait to move to the next house where all these 2 story houses don’t look into my backyard!) but just laying on my back looking at the sky is my favorite.

This immersion in gratitude lately really does incredible things for one’s mood and outlook. I really thought about today how I MADE IT and how grateful I was, thanks to God.

-I made it to adulthood! Trust me, I did some foolish things that could have easily prevented that. Worst yet, I cringe to think I could have died unsaved.  But I’m here..I’m an adult.

-I have the family I always dreamed about. When I was a little girl I had 10 imaginary sisters for a while. I wanted to be a part of a large family so badly…well I got the opportunity to create a large-ish sort of least for today’s standards. I’m so happy about that.

-Most importantly, I made it to being born again. In a world where there is SO much confusion, I am grateful I made it through, saw all the human formed false works doctrine for what it was, and found the truth. This is enough to call it good and yet God still blesses us in this life with so many gifts and special people.

Even recently too-

-I made it through some personal darker times, I made it through stressful things, I’ve almost made it through this moving process :)!

We are constantly making it through big and small hurdles. Let’s take a moment of pause in this busy culture, to just appreciate THAT before the next one.

If we remember what we have made it through, we can remind ourselves that we can make it through anything..and that’s a pretty good feeling.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16.36

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 1 John 5:4

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Romans 8:37

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1 John 4.4

Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5.5

To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. Rev 3.21

If it’s not a regular practice, I challenge you to take some time each day to truly think about what you are grateful for and what you have overcome with God’s help. It will make the day look brighter and your smile bigger. This is the key to not sweating the small stuff I think.

Here is a sermon that ties in with this.

How Our Family Takes a Personal/Sick Day

Mom can never take a sick day, am I right? We don’t get to call in sick or take a personal day, but I will show you how you can get as close to that as possible while still keeping the ship afloat.

Sometimes you have a sick kid or kids, sometimes mom is sick, sometimes the night was rough, and sometimes there is more stress than usual and you need to give yourself some grace!

Today was one of those day and I could feel it. I called a family meeting and asked, “Should we declare today a Family Personal Day?” The answer was a unanimous,”YES!”

So here are the guidelines-

You still must READ something AFTER you complete your Bible Reading Chart.

The sick littles ones are exempt and can just rest-

This I don’t have to tell them to do- but they should spend lots of time outside (for one so they don’t trash the place) and use their imagination. Here they are building a fort.

Complete with a camp fire.

Enjoy this break from school to do and explore all your interests. For some that is drawing and they get all the time in the day to do that.

As for mom, this is time for mom to relax and read on the couch. Maybe read some Bible or other books to herself or out loud to the kids.

This is time to catch up on laundry or other chores if she is not sick.

As for meals there are 2 ways to go with this-

  1. Since there is not the usual routine, mom has time to make meals that are more “all out” and take more time and preparation. This is a nice treat!
  2. If it’s a day mom does not feel well or stress, this might be a paper plate and easy meal day.
This is everyones favorite salad right now!

Both are great in their own way!

For Family Personal Day, Nap Time/Quiet Time is a must.

If mom is not feeling well, this is time to take a nap with the little ones while the big kids engage in a quiet activity like Legos.

If mom is not sick, this could be time to catch up on what needs attention, which can be a number of things! lol

For me on personal days I like to use nap time to exercise a little longer, work on fermentation things in the kitchen, read/listen to a book or sermon, or work on one of my goal projects.

For the early afternoons I am a fan of outdoor time. Even a sick child could benefit from just laying on the grass outside or sitting on a chair, getting some fresh air. I love watching the kids ride their bikes.

Dinner Time is earlier on personal days. We will probably be done with dinner by the time Dad gets home. We go to bed early, and have a little more time for bed time stories and cuddles. By going to bed earlier we are more likely to have a better night and be in MUCH better spirits for the next day.

Usually after a family personal day, everybody is ready to go back into our normal routine.

Sometimes that one day can make a big difference in the school week, month or year.

We all need a personal day sometimes. Don’t feel guilty if every day does not go as planned and scheduled.

Mom if you feel like this verse-

Psalm 55:6 King James Version (KJV)

And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.

You can set up guidelines to rest at home, it’s OK.

It’s amazing even on a day like this at home, the kids are still learning. We watched a few youtube videos from this channel. read books, learned how to come up with stuff outside, worked on cooking skills, drawing skills etc.

Let me know in the comments below how you take a family personal day!

Izzy Turns 11!

Today was such a fun and special day.

Izzy woke up to a heart streamers downstairs. I didn’t have a chance to go buy baloons but broke out the valentines decorations and she loved it.

I made the big puffy pancakes in the oven and garlic bacon.

We lounged around and then got ready for a day of Izzy’s favorites.

We attended a free STEM event with well over 100 booths of activities and freebies for children. I was kicking myself for remembering to bring my ncie camera but forgot the SIM card in my laptop, argh. We enjoyed the event very much and I will put it on my calender for next year. We found out about so many great rescources and free activties STEM related around town so big win for the day.

After that we went to her favorite for lunch Raising Canes. We picked the location right next to the Art Supply store near ASU. It’s bitter sweet realizing she is no longer really into toys but she LOVES to draw and practices for hours a day. We bought her a kit containing flesh color pencils with other supplies and paper pads, she was so excited.

After that we stopped by the future house and took some pictures of things we need to replace and just dreamed a bit in the backyard.

After that we went to another of Izzy’s favorites- Peter Pipper Pizza..where we spend an emberassing amount on tokens for all the kids. That’s what they all love though and all the cheap little prizes they trade their tickets in for.

I picked up a cake at Bashas next door and finally headed home.

We let Izzy pick our her favorite movie for family movie night and I made Chicken Parm and a house salad.

Dinner turned out really good and afterwards we sang Happy Birthday and tore into the cake.

Joe went upstairs to work on the taxes, and I settled on the couch with the kids under a big blanket. I never had actually watched this movie all the way through and I am glad I did. It had me all emotional and making all kinds of promises to myself.  We had a good dicussion afterwards about it and then it was off to bed.

I feel for my Izzy sometimes. She had the most time with me unsaved. The most time with me trying to navigate through some choppy waters and learning how to do this mothering thing…I’m still learning! She is so tenderharted and wants to always cook with me and please her parents. She is so special. I pray God blesses her immensely in her life. She already loves to go soulwinning and is light years ahead of where I was at her age.

With each of my children, I look at them and think- THIS is your best age! I thought I would be a little sad as they grew up but it only just gets better, truly it does.
