Christian, Homeschooling, Mother of 6 with way too many ideas.

  1. Hey! This is a bit off topic, excuse me really, I just didn’t know where to write this.
I’m always looking for tips , since I myself am a mom of a larger family so I really really like your website. So this is what I wanted to say …I just wanted to let you know that the book in the “favourite websites” section “fascinating womanhood” is written based on the work of a mormon (Helen Andelin). It’s still good that the course saved so many marriages but still I think as Christians, we should be cautious from what source we take anything:). I just thought I’d let you know. Excuse me , I really don’t want to offend you or something, but I read a bit through it until I found out that she is a mormon, and then I stopped because I am very cautious and I try to be very discerning with what I read and most of all what source it comes from even if it sounds good at first glance :). So sorry again, this is really off topic here.
    Sincerely, Dani from Europe

    1. Thank you for letting me know! I had no idea she was mormon, what a bummer. It’s so hard to find encouraging books in this area written by doctrinally sound people. I will go ahead and remove it, thank you for giving me the heads up!

      1. I didn’t know too.. I was so shocked, because I read a great part of the book and then I searched more about the backgrounds and I was too very schocked. Thanks for not being offended, I really normally am not the person who likes to point things like these out πŸ™‚ but this time being myself so schocked because the book really sounded good at first, I just thought I should do it, so thanks for your kind reaction because I was really afraid I’m more an offense, writing off – topic and pointing something like this out!
And I agree with you, it’s really hard to find books (in this area and also other themes for christian women) written by doctrinally sound people.. But with the help of the Lord, I think He guides us and keeps us safe from sects, etc.
By the way, thanks again and keep up the wonderful work! The Lord may strengthen you in everything you do and in this high calling of being a wife and mom!

  2. Thank you, really! πŸ™‚
    Now something to the topic:
We homeschool also but here in this country (Austria) it’s a bit different, f.e. you can’t freely choose your own curriculum but have to take the same curriculum as in the schools (but there is a list of school approved books which the state school council, or however it is translated, put together which you can choose your books from). Then the child has to do an exam at the end of the year and if he fails he has to go the next year to a normal school. If he succeded, he can continue being homeschooled. So practically, they want you to teach your kid the same things they teach in their schools.
So it’s a lot different than in the US but still I count it as a blessing that it’s at least allowed because other countries, even our neighbour Germany does prohibit it as far as I know.. and many other countries too. I find it a great thing that here it’s allowed.. Even if some people find it strange and even say it should be prohibited….I hope it will continue to be allowed.
Even if we have some restrictions on the books, we can still choose books to use along with them, I found the Dick&Jane book interesting you presented where the sites begin only with a word and then two and so on. I tried to find it in german, but did not and I think I will use the english one for english class for the beginners to read. I also like the Laura Ingalls Wilder books and these do exist in german so I will be able to integrate them more easily. Hopefully I will find more of the other ones also in german. Well I am a book addict too somehow I think, I really like books:).

    1. I’m SO glad you are able to have your children with you. Even without choosing the material, you can still make a tremendous godly impact on your children!! I have to recommend my Pastor’s Wife channel to you, she is Hungarian, but grew up in Germany. You might already follow her? Here are some some fun recommendations not relating to curriculum. Some of these are on my wish list for sure!

      1. Yeah I oftentimes read her blog (&watch the vlog) too when I have time, actually it’s very funny that we are also of hungarian origin but our parents lived in Romania for a long time so we don’t speak the language anymore sadly, but our last name is still hungarian. And I was born and raised mostly here in Austria but was very often in Romania too in vacation.

We actually have someone in our community who is, you could say really a fan of pastor Anderson :)) I mean, like, he really listens to all his sermons and so. I personally didn’t get to listen to all sermons, because the time is lacking always being busy with the kids and household stuff…
and also I don’t comment usually even if I read a blog regularly , so this was really the first time in my life I commented on a blog :).

And to homeschooling: yes this is what I thought too. Really this world is getting day by day worse and worse and it’s really trying to influence our children in every wrong direction, but we know and are prepared because it’s written in the Word that in the last days everything will get more horrible day by day. We can only trust in the Lord that he will keep us safe till the end.

I will listen to it when I have time, thank you for the recommendation!
